Trombone Technique Guide
Embouchure
Hand Position
- Firm corners; pucker lips slightly; center of the chin is relaxed.
- Drawn chin muscles downward.
- Mouthpiece is placed in the horizontal center of the embouchure.
- Mouthpiece is placed ½ upper and ½ lower lip within the rim of the mouthpiece.
- Teeth are separated slightly.
Hand Position
- LH - Thumb is around the bell brace; middle, ring, and pinky fingers grip 1st slide brace; index finger is on or near the mouthpiece.
- RH - Thumb, 1st and 2nd fingers hold the slide brace.
- RH - Wrist is relaxed and flexible.
- Both hands - Elbows are free from the body; trombone declines slightly.
